Teaching

My primary goal as a teacher is to help students help themselves by illuminating the subjects, problems, and challenges they face. I wish to cultivate not only critical and independent thought, but also a deep sense of passion for the art.

As a music teacher, especially in interactive media and music technology, my role is that of a model and mentor. I aim to provide a perspective against which students may reflect on and consider their ideas through a visual and critical lens, allowing a clearer path. Students need to develop a sense of ownership of their education and of their expression through the arts.

Well-rounded musicianship is achieved through example and solid pedagogy. Blending technical fluency, critical thinking, and a deep appreciation for the magical and the profound in art encourages a complete sense of artistry and humanity.

I have taught courses across music production, mixing and mastering, electronic music composition, game audio, audio for film and video, and studio technology at Shenandoah Conservatory, Washington and Lee University, and currently at Rangsit Conservatory of Music in Thailand. I have also directed the Electronic Music Ensemble and Modern Music Ensemble, conducting student performances of electronic and electroacoustic repertoire. As an Ableton Certified Trainer, Avid Certified Instructor (Pro Tools), and Wwise Certified Instructor, I integrate industry standards into the classroom so students graduate with both artistic foundations and professional credentials.
